Kebbi School Students Regain Freedom After Government Negotiation With Kidnappers

Dozens of schoolchildren abducted in Kebbi State have been released following negotiations between government representatives and the kidnappers, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The students, who were taken during a recent attack on a school in the state, were freed after days of tense dialogue aimed at securing their safe return. Although officials have not disclosed the specific terms of the negotiation, sources indicate that discussions focused primarily on ensuring the unharmed release of the victims.

State authorities expressed relief over the development, noting that the priority throughout the process was the safety of the students. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the insecurity affecting schools across the region.

Parents and community members gathered to welcome the students back, describing the ordeal as deeply traumatic but expressing gratitude that the children returned alive.

Security analysts, however, warned that reliance on negotiation could embolden criminal groups, urging stronger preventive measures, improved intelligence operations, and enhanced protection for schools.

The Kebbi State Government stated that efforts are ongoing to support the students’ psychological recovery while working with security agencies to prevent future incidents.
