APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has weighed in on the viral confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a military officer, calling the soldier’s actions part of a “horrible mission” and urging that he be removed from the service.
Igbokwe — who has publicly backed Wike in the fallout from the incident — questioned who sent the officer and suggested the soldier was acting on orders beyond mere politics. In a strongly worded post, he asked, “Who sent the small boy on this horrible mission? Of what meat is he fed? I am running away with the thinking that those lands were stolen. Take him out of the military asap. He represents evil.”
The comments come after video footage of the standoff circulated online, showing Wike speaking with senior defence officials and the military officer insisting the minister could not gain access to the disputed site. Igbokwe’s intervention has amplified public attention — with supporters praising the minister’s restraint while critics argue the episode highlights tensions between civilian authorities and parts of the security establishment.
Reactions online were swift: some users echoed Igbokwe’s call for disciplinary action against the soldier, while others warned against politicising an incident that involves the military. Observers have urged calm and called for official statements from the Defence Headquarters and the FCT Ministry to clarify orders, chain of command and any ongoing investigations.
At the time of filing, neither the military’s high command nor Wike’s office has released a full account addressing the criticisms and the calls for the officer’s removal. The episode remains a focal point in debates over authority, protocol and civil-military relations in Nigeria.
