The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has officially debunked reports claiming that Nigerian Navy officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima survived an assassination attempt in Abuja.
The alleged incident was said to have followed his recent face-off with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, but authorities have clarified that the claims are baseless and unsubstantiated.A statement from the FCT Police emphasized that Lt. Yerima was not targeted, and there is no evidence of any attack on his life. The police urged the public to exercise caution in spreading unverified reports, noting that such misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and destabilize public trust in security agencies.
“The Nigerian Police Force has verified that there was no assassination attempt on Lt. Ahmed Yerima. Reports circulating online are false,” the statement read.
The clarification comes after widespread speculation on social media, fueled by the high-profile confrontation between Yerima and Minister Wike, which captured national attention and sparked debates about civil-military interactions in Abuja.
Authorities continue to assure Nigerians that security personnel are safe and operational, urging citizens to rely on official channels for information regarding security matters.
