Comedian Aso Rock Sparks Debate With Call for EFCC–Military Collaboration Against Insecurity

Nigerian comedian Aso Rock has stirred widespread conversation online after suggesting that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should collaborate with the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle the nation’s escalating insecurity.

In a viral post, the comedian remarked:

“I think it’s time for EFCC operatives to join hands with the Nigerian Armed Forces to combat these insecurity and killings. The EFCC already knows how to bust down doors at midnight, so they can use that same tactic to raid the hideout of these terrorists.”

Aso Rock’s comment, delivered in his signature satirical style, sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some Nigerians agreed that security agencies must work more closely to dismantle criminal networks, others criticized the suggestion as unrealistic, noting that EFCC’s mandate is focused on financial crimes, not counter-terrorism or armed conflict.

Security analysts also weighed in, stressing that although inter-agency cooperation is crucial, counter-insurgency operations require specialized training, intelligence coordination, and military-grade capabilities that fall outside the EFCC’s jurisdiction.

Others viewed the comedian’s remarks as a reflection of growing public frustration over recurring attacks in parts of the country, with many citizens calling for stronger and more proactive responses from all government institutions.

Neither the EFCC nor the Nigerian military has issued an official response to the comedian’s comments.

The statement adds to ongoing national discussions about Nigeria’s security architecture and the need for more effective, united action to protect lives and restore stability.
