Popular journalist and Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni has called out what he described as “blatant hypocrisy” among critics attacking Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi for his recent comments about redirecting Nigerian internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys.
In a social media post, Rufai reminded Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had previously stated his intention to “turn Yahoo boys into experts in manufacturing,” yet received little or no backlash for the remark.
“They are all attacking Peter Obi for saying Yahoo boys need redirection,” Rufai wrote. “They forget President Tinubu said he will turn Yahoo boys into experts in manufacturing. I dare the data boi to condemn their father. You can see it’s all hypocrisy! I dare them empirical evidence.”
The journalist’s statement has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many agreeing that political bias continues to shape public discourse in Nigeria. Supporters of Peter Obi praised Rufai for “speaking truth to power,” while others accused him of defending the opposition.
Rufai, known for his outspoken and fact-driven style, maintained that his point was not about politics but consistency, urging Nigerians to judge leaders’ statements fairly, regardless of political affiliations.
His comments have once again ignited conversations around moral standards, youth empowerment, and the double standards often seen in Nigeria’s political debates.
