“Opay Bank Will Soon Close Between December and January,” Pastor Predicts in Viral Video

A viral video has surfaced online showing a pastor claiming that Opay, one of Nigeria’s leading fintech and mobile banking platforms, is on the verge of shutting down operations between December this year and January next year.

In the footage making rounds on social media, the unidentified preacher warned Nigerians to be cautious with their funds, alleging that the digital bank will first announce “technical issues” before eventually ceasing operations.

“Opay Bank is about to close,” the pastor declared. “One day they will tell you the bank is having technical issues, from there they will close operating. It’s going to happen between this December to January next year.”

The prophecy has sparked widespread debate online, with many Nigerians expressing concern while others dismissed it as mere speculation or fearmongering.

As reactions continue to pour in, Opay has not issued any official statement in response to the viral claim. However, industry analysts and financial experts have advised customers not to panic, emphasizing that such statements should be verified through official regulatory bodies like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Opay, a licensed mobile money operator regulated by the CBN, has consistently maintained a strong presence in Nigeria’s fintech space, boasting millions of users and a rapidly expanding digital payment network.

While the prophecy continues to trend across platforms, many Nigerians are calling for restraint and fact-checking, warning against spreading unverified financial information that could cause unnecessary panic among the public.
