Contrary to widespread social media claims suggesting that the demolition of Ola of Lagos’ multimillion-naira car lot was an act of “karma” for his past political affiliations or support for the CNG initiative, credible reports have confirmed that the action was carried out due to serious safety violations.
According to officials from the Lagos State Government, the demolished structure was situated directly beneath a high-tension power line, a location strictly prohibited for any form of construction under Nigerian building and safety regulations.
“No one is permitted to build under or close to power lines. It’s a serious safety hazard that endangers both lives and property,” a source from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) explained.
The government emphasized that the demolition had nothing to do with personal or political motives, but was a necessary enforcement measure to prevent future disasters.
Social media had earlier been flooded with reactions, with some netizens attributing the demolition to “karma” or political payback. However, new information confirms that the decision was based solely on violation of structural and environmental laws.
Authorities have since reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and enforcing building codes across the state, urging developers and business owners to obtain proper approvals before construction.
Meanwhile, supporters of Ola of Lagos have expressed sympathy over the loss, calling on the government to offer clearer communication in future enforcement exercises to avoid misinformation and speculation.
