Major Milestone Achieved as Key Equipment for BUA Refinery Arrives in Akwa Ibom — Project Nearing Completion

In a significant stride toward strengthening Nigeria’s energy independence, the BUA Group has achieved a major milestone in the construction of its petroleum refinery in Akwa Ibom State, as critical processing equipment has successfully arrived on-site.

The development signals that the long-awaited BUA Refinery project is now nearing completion, marking an important step in Nigeria’s efforts to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products and boost local refining capacity.

According to project engineers, the newly delivered equipment includes crude distillation units, vacuum distillation systems, and desulphurization modules, all of which are essential components for the refinery’s full-scale operations.

In a statement, BUA Group described the delivery as a “major breakthrough” and reaffirmed its commitment to completing the refinery on schedule.

“We are proud to announce the safe arrival and installation of key equipment for the BUA Refinery project in Akwa Ibom. This milestone brings us closer to commissioning one of Nigeria’s most advanced refining facilities,” the company said.

The refinery, when completed, is expected to have the capacity to refine 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs while contributing significantly to Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply and economic diversification.

Industry experts have lauded BUA’s progress, noting that the refinery’s completion will complement the Dangote Refinery and the rehabilitated Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, collectively moving Nigeria closer to achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum refining.

The Akwa Ibom State Government also commended BUA Group for its investment, highlighting the project’s potential to transform the state into a strategic energy hub and stimulate industrial growth across the Niger Delta region.
