Tragedy struck in Abuja on Friday night as Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, former chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, was killed by armed assailants who also abducted his three children.
The incident occurred in Kubwa district, where the attackers reportedly stormed Dr. Ogbu’s residence, shooting him before fleeing with his children. His lifeless body was later discovered dumped by a riverbank roadside, deepening fears among residents already grappling with rising insecurity.
As of Sunday, no ransom demand had been made, and the whereabouts of the children remain unknown.
The killing adds to the wave of violent crimes plaguing the nation’s capital. Reports indicate that over 260 robberies and 60 homicides have been recorded in Abuja this year alone. Despite public concern, no arrests or rescue efforts have been officially confirmed by the police.
Citizens and professional associations have called on security agencies to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safe return of Dr. Ogbu’s children.
