Wike’s Media Aide Knocks Alaafin of Oyo for Yielding Seat to Business Mogul Sir Gabriel

A fresh wave of controversy has erupted on social media after the media aide to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, publicly criticized the Alaafin of Oyo for shifting his seat in deference to billionaire businessman, Sir Gabriel.

The aide, whose comments surfaced in reaction to a viral clip from a recent high-profile gathering, described the monarch’s action as “demeaning to the traditional institution”, arguing that cultural heritage and royal dignity should never be compromised, regardless of a person’s wealth.

According to him, traditional rulers embody the pride and continuity of the people, and therefore should be accorded unwavering respect. He insisted that royal authority should not be made subservient to money or influence.

The remarks have since generated mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians agreed that the throne must remain sacred and independent of material power, others defended the Alaafin’s action, interpreting it as a gesture of humility and mutual respect.

As the debate continues, both camps highlight the delicate balance between tradition, respect for royalty, and the growing influence of Nigeria’s business elite.
