Sen. Magnus Abe: “The Ground is Finally Set for the Takeoff of a New Ogoni”

Senator Magnus Abe has declared that the long-standing divisions within Ogoniland are now being healed, following recent steps by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on the conferment of national honours on the Ogoni Four—the late environmental rights activists whose execution in 1995 sparked global outrage—Abe said the recognition marks a turning point for the Ogoni struggle.

“We are all together now. We don't want to have that division anymore. With the steps the President has taken, we believe the ground is finally set for the takeoff of a new Ogoni,” the former Rivers South-East senator said.

The national honours, seen as a gesture of reconciliation, have been welcomed by many as a long-overdue acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by Ogoni leaders in the fight against environmental degradation and injustice.

Observers say the move, coupled with renewed dialogue on oil production in Ogoniland, signals a broader effort to rebuild trust, foster unity, and reposition the Niger Delta for sustainable development.
