President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared an end to the state of emergency in Rivers State, restoring normal governance and security operations in the oil-rich region.
The move signals a return to political stability after months of heightened tension that prompted the federal government to impose emergency measures. The decision followed extensive consultations with security chiefs, political stakeholders, and traditional leaders, who assured the Presidency that peace and order had been largely restored.
By lifting the emergency rule, the federal government said it expects a renewed focus on governance, economic activities, and infrastructural development in Rivers, particularly in the energy and business sectors critical to Nigeria’s economy.
President Tinubu, while making the announcement, emphasized the importance of reconciliation and urged political actors in the state to put aside their differences for the sake of unity and progress.
Residents of Rivers have welcomed the development with cautious optimism, expressing hope that the end of emergency rule will pave the way for peace, investment, and improved livelihoods.
