Peter Obi Debunks Fake Photos With Donald Trump and MC Oluomo, Warns Against Disinformation

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed photos circulating on social media purporting to show him with former U.S. President Donald Trump and NURTW leader MC Oluomo.

In a statement on Thursday, Obi described the trending images as “doctored and entirely false,” warning Nigerians to be vigilant against the spread of disinformation aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing his reputation.

“The photos being shared are fake and the stories attached to them are false. I have not met with Donald Trump or MC Oluomo. This is another attempt to distract Nigerians with propaganda,” Obi said.

He emphasized that his focus remains firmly on advocating solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges, insecurity, and governance issues, not engaging in cheap publicity or political stunts.

“I remain committed to building a Nigeria that works for everyone. No amount of fake news or manipulated media will derail that mission,” he added.

The former Anambra governor also called on social media users and political actors to embrace truth and integrity, noting that fake content deepens division and confuses citizens ahead of crucial national decisions.

Observers have noted an increasing rise in politically motivated fake images and stories on social platforms as the 2027 elections approach, with fact-checkers urging Nigerians to verify sources before sharing content.
