Many Nigerians have expressed deep concern and frustration over the country’s worsening insecurity, warning that even the younger generation is now witnessing open negotiations between bandits and the Nigerian government.
Citizens lamented that such scenes, widely circulated in recent weeks, risk normalizing lawlessness and criminality, as children and youths observe how armed groups dictate terms rather than face justice.
“Even the upcoming generation are witnessing the negotiation between the bandits and Nigeria. At the same time, they are learning from their elders,” one angry Nigerian remarked.
Analysts fear this could have long-term consequences, with the culture of impunity seeping deeper into society. Many argue that rather than negotiating, the state should strengthen security and enforce the rule of law to restore confidence.
Critics say the cycle of dialogue and ransom has only emboldened criminal groups, while ordinary Nigerians are left to grapple with fear, kidnappings, and displacement.
