FG Cancels Nigeria’s Independence Day Parade

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of this year’s Independence Day parade, an event traditionally held on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Though details behind the decision remain limited, officials disclosed that the move was taken in consideration of prevailing national circumstances. Instead of the usual parade, the government is expected to hold a low-key ceremony in Abuja.

The cancellation has sparked mixed reactions across the country. While some Nigerians see it as a reflection of the challenging times facing the nation, others have called on the government to use the moment as an opportunity to renew focus on tackling insecurity, economic hardship, and disunity.
