Energy expert Dan Kunle has weighed in on Nigeria’s refining sector, highlighting the contrast between Dangote Refinery and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN).
Kunle stated, “Dangote Refinery is offering carrots to Nigerians, while DAPPMAN is offering scorpions. We expected DAPPMAN to mobilize capital and negotiate with the Federal Government to acquire existing government-owned refineries, rehabilitate them, and compete with Dangote. Instead, they didn’t take that approach.”
He emphasized that Dangote Refinery has brought much-needed relief to the nation’s fuel supply, offering a potential solution to longstanding challenges, while importers appear focused on dumping products into the country. “It’s clear why Nigerians would support Dangote,” Kunle added.
The commentary underscores growing public and expert attention on strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
