A wave of outrage has followed the circulation of doctored photos involving U.S. President Donald Trump, Lagos transport leader MC Oluomo, and former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The images, allegedly pushed by some supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have been called out as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and fuel tension.Critics say the move is an act of desperation and dishonesty, designed to manipulate public opinion ahead of Nigeria’s heated political conversations.
“It is truly unfortunate that some supporters of the APC have resorted to fabricating and circulating fake images… This deliberate act of misinformation is deceitful and aimed at causing confusion,” a concerned citizen said.
Many Nigerians have condemned the trend of digital propaganda and smear campaigns, urging the public to fact-check images and news before sharing. Analysts warn that such disinformation could further polarize the nation and damage democratic discourse.
Observers are calling on social media platforms to do more to curb the spread of fake content and for political actors to show integrity and restraint in their campaigns.
