A Point-of-Sale (POS) agent, who served two years in prison after unknowingly processing ₦500,000–₦600,000 ransom withdrawals for kidnappers via her terminal, has finally been released following intervention and public outcry.
The POS agent has been freed in late July 2025 after enduring nearly two years in prison. She was implicated in processing ransom withdrawals carried out through her POS terminal—amounts between ₦500,000 and ₦600,000—allegedly by a kidnapper who misused her services.
A touching video shared online, describing her as a Boys’ Brigade officer, called for justice—criticizing that lesser-known individuals suffer longer in custody compared to those with social influence. Public calls underscored the need for the government to help everyday people who are financially vulnerable.
Despite the actual kidnappers getting arrested, she remained detained until recently. The case underscores persistent concerns raised by Delta State Police: POS operators can inadvertently become tools for ransom collection, especially in transactions over ₦500,000, and are urged to record interactions or redirect clients to safer banking options to shield themselves from criminal liability
