From Critic to Confidant: VDM Reflects on Meeting with Burna Boy — Integrity Leads to Unexpected Doors
Social commentator and activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has shared an inspiring encounter with Grammy‑winner Burna Boy, spotlighting how honesty and integrity—qualities often undervalued—can open doors and foster powerful connections.
In a conversation that began at a mutual friend’s wedding, VDM and Burna Boy discussed VDM’s past criticisms of the Afrobeats star. Instead of tension, the exchange evolved into candid talks about youth empowerment, the state of Nigeria, and personal aspirations. The two ended up talking well into the early hours, forming a surprising bond over shared values and mutual respect.
VDM later revealed that not only did Burna Boy watch his videos back-to-back, he even complimented the activist’s sincerity:
“I don’t mind the criticism, so long as it’s real. And I know you are very real, VDM.”
That evening, Burna Boy invited VDM to ride along—leaving his car behind—and continue their discussion. The conversation flowed naturally until morning, as they delved deeper into national issues rather than glamour or fame. Burna reportedly encouraged VDM to persist in his activism, urging him not to relent despite criticism.
Even though VDM wasn’t able to attend Burna’s birthday celebration—because he was busy organizing a protest to demand the reopening of a public primary school in the Federal Capital Territory—Burna commended the young activist’s dedication to social causes.
