Wike Declares Commitment to Tinubu's 2027 Re-election, Dismisses Opposition Efforts

In a resolute statement, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), affirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.

Addressing recent speculations about potential challengers, Wike asserted, "Anyone planning to unseat Bola Tinubu come 2027 in the FCT and Nigeria at large is deceiving himself." He emphasized that such efforts would be futile, as the political structure backing Tinubu remains strong and united.

Wike's commitment to Tinubu's second term is rooted in their shared vision for Nigeria's progress. Reflecting on their collaboration, Wike remarked, "Tinubu made me the FCT minister, and I won’t allow anybody to crumble our political structure. No!" He further dismissed any notion of contesting against Tinubu, stating, "I can’t run against Tinubu in 2027... I have character."

Despite Wike's declarations, political tensions persist. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT has expressed concerns over Wike's leadership, suggesting that his actions could hinder the party's performance in the upcoming elections. They warned that if the current situation continues, the APC might struggle to secure even 2% of the vote in the FCT during the 2027 presidential election. Additionally, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) youth leadership has criticized Wike's approach, labeling it as divisive and a potential threat to Tinubu's re-election prospects.

As the 2027 elections approach, Wike's role in the FCT remains a focal point of political discourse, with his actions and alliances continuing to influence the nation's political landscape.
