Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, reportedly visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a dramatic attempt to mend fences amid their deepening political feud.
According to credible sources, the visit occurred on Friday, April 18, at Wike’s Abuja residence. It came shortly after Fubara held a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London regarding the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State — a situation that recently escalated to a state of emergency declaration and the suspension of Fubara along with several elected officials for six months.
In what insiders described as a highly emotional encounter, Fubara was said to have prostrated before Wike, held his feet, and repeatedly referred to him as "My Oga", pleading for forgiveness and reconciliation. The meeting reportedly lasted into the early hours of Saturday, April 19.
Fubara was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba, who are believed to have facilitated the peace effort. Although no official statement has been released regarding the outcome, sources say Wike instructed Fubara to return to Port Harcourt and brief senior party elders and supporters about the “true nature” of their rift.
When contacted, Wike’s spokesperson Lere Olayinka confirmed the meeting but declined to provide further details. Fubara’s media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, refused to comment, directing all enquiries to the Rivers Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson, who was unreachable at press time.
The latest development suggests a possible thaw in the once-frosty relationship between the two political figures, whose fallout has plunged Rivers State into an extended governance crisis.
