Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly apologized to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, acknowledging that he was misled by influential aides and supporters during a period of political tension.
In a heartfelt statement, Governor Fubara expressed regret for his actions, stating:
"I apologize to my Oga, Honourable Minister Nyesom Wike. I was misled by hungry so-called elders, aides, and supporters. They kept pushing me until I nearly lost my soul. I am wiser now and ready to work with my lifetime oga to make Rivers work. My oga helped me get to the government house; I was a nobody until he assisted me, and I disappointed him. I am sorry!"
This apology comes after a prolonged political rift between the two leaders, which has strained relations within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. The conflict escalated following allegations that Governor Fubara had falsely accused Wike of demanding substantial sums of money, claims that Wike vehemently denied and stated he would never support Fubara again in his political life .
In response to the ongoing feud, the Ijaw Elders Forum, led by Boma Iyaye, has issued an apology to Wike on behalf of Governor Fubara. During a civic reception organized in Wike's honor, Iyaye conveyed the community's regret, emphasizing that such actions were not reflective of their values.
The apology marks a significant step towards reconciliation and healing within the state's political landscape. Both leaders have expressed a commitment to putting the past behind them and focusing on the development and progress of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara's acknowledgment of his missteps and the subsequent apology to Wike are seen as pivotal moments in restoring unity and trust among the state's political figures and their constituents
