A yet-to-be-identified man has issued a dramatic threat online, warning that if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) fails to release activist VeryDarkMan by Tuesday, demonstrators will take radical action, including targeting GTBank branches and police stations linked to the case.
“If EFCC refuse to release VeryDarkMan latest on Tuesday, we will bvrñ GTBank and all the pølice stations around,” the man declared in a now-viral video circulating on social media, using altered spelling that suggests an attempt to avoid censorship or platform restrictions.
The threat comes as VeryDarkMan, known for his sharp commentary on corruption and abuse of power, remains in detention without formal charges or a public explanation. His arrest has sparked growing backlash from fans, civil society groups, and international observers demanding transparency and due process.
As of the time of this report, EFCC, GTBank, and the Nigeria Police Force have not issued formal responses to the viral threat. However, security agencies are reportedly on alert, monitoring public sentiment and online activity for signs of planned unrest.
VeryDarkMan was arrested last week, allegedly in connection with defamation complaints tied to gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, though the EFCC has not confirmed the reason for his detention. Critics argue that his arrest represents a broader clampdown on free speech.
Legal experts have warned that while public protests are constitutional, any threats or acts of violence—especially against private or public institutions are criminal and could worsen the activist’s legal situation or incite unnecessary harm.
Some supporters of VeryDarkMan have urged restraint, encouraging peaceful protest and legal action rather than violence. They emphasize that the focus should remain on securing his release lawfully and upholding the principles of justice.
