Nigerian Army Launches Environmental Sanitation Exercise in Onitsha

The Nigerian Army has initiated a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise in Onitsha, Anambra State, aimed at enhancing public health and fostering civil-military relations.

The operation, led by the 302 Artillery Regiment, involves the clearing of blocked drainages, removal of refuse, and de-silting of water channels in various parts of the city.

The exercise has seen active participation from local residents, including traders and market leaders, who have been mobilized to assist in the cleanup efforts. Additionally, the Anambra State Ministry of Environment has been collaborating with the military to ensure the success of the initiative.

This sanitation exercise is part of the Nigerian Army's broader strategy to engage with host communities and contribute to their well-being. Similar initiatives have been undertaken in the past, such as the cleaning of drainage channels in the Electrical International Market Obosi and the renovation of infrastructure within the Onitsha Military Cantonment.

While the sanitation exercise has been welcomed by many residents, there are calls for sustained efforts to maintain cleanliness and prevent future environmental hazards. Community leaders have urged both the military and local authorities to establish regular monitoring and maintenance programs to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.

The Nigerian Army's involvement in environmental sanitation underscores its commitment to national development and the well-being of Nigerian citizens. Through such initiatives, the military aims to build stronger relationships with communities and contribute positively to the country's growth.
