In a strategic political move, the Labour Party is intensifying its grassroots mobilization across Adamawa State, starting from its stronghold Numan Local Government Area which was the only LGA the party won during the last general elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC confirmed that Numan LGA delivered the highest number of votes for the Labour Party in Adamawa during the 2023 general elections, signaling a growing political shift in the region historically dominated by other major parties.
In a recent meeting held at Mope Hotel in Numan, key stakeholders, coordinators, and party supporters gathered to deliberate on the way forward and to strategize for a full-scale grassroots expansion across all local government areas in the state.
“We’re enlarging the struggle,” said one of the conveners of the meeting. “We’ve seen the will of the people in Numan. Now, we are taking that energy and launching in every local government in Adamawa.”
The Labour Party's resurgence has been largely driven by calls for youth participation, better governance, and disillusionment with the traditional political establishment. Local observers say Numan's support could be a political blueprint for winning over other LGAs ahead of the 2027 elections.
Next Steps
-
Party offices will be established in all 21 LGAs in Adamawa State.
-
Mobilization efforts will target youth groups, women, civil servants, and local leaders.
-
A series of community town halls and sensitization campaigns are set to begin in the coming weeks.
The atmosphere in Numan remains charged with optimism. Residents, especially young people, believe the Labour Party can offer a viable alternative, echoing the “Take Back Nigeria” sentiment that gained traction during the 2023 polls.
As the party moves to replicate its success in other parts of the state, political watchers are keeping a close eye on whether Numan’s political awakening will spark a broader realignment in Adamawa politics.
