The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of 40 suspected internet fraudsters in Tamah, a community in the Tamah Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to an official statement released by the EFCC on Wednesday, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate following actionable intelligence linking them to various forms of online fraud.
Recovered Items
During the operation, which was carried out on April 29, 2025, EFCC officials recovered:
-
34 mobile phones
-
5 laptops
The items are believed to have been used in the execution of fraudulent schemes, commonly referred to as "Yahoo Yahoo" activities.
The anti-graft agency confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation. “They will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC stated.
The arrests underscore the agency’s continued crackdown on cybercrime and digital financial fraud across Nigeria, especially among young people increasingly lured into the illegal trade.
The EFCC has intensified its cybercrime operations across several states, responding to growing concerns over Nigeria’s global reputation in online fraud. The agency continues to appeal to the public to report suspicious online activities and remain vigilant.
This latest operation adds to a string of successful raids carried out by the EFCC in recent months, reflecting its renewed commitment to eradicating internet fraud and restoring integrity in the nation’s digital space.
