The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police for Zone 9, comprising Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states, has pledged to eliminate all Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) hideouts in the Southeast region.
This declaration underscores the federal government's commitment to curbing separatist activities and restoring peace to the area.The AIG's statement comes amid ongoing military operations targeting IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Recent joint security efforts have led to significant successes, including the neutralization of several IPOB members and the dismantling of key hideouts. For instance, in June 2024, troops raided multiple IPOB/ESN camps across the Southeast, apprehending 25 suspects and rescuing 15 kidnapped individuals .
Security forces have also targeted high-profile locations associated with IPOB, such as the group's "supreme headquarters" in Orsu, Imo State. This operation resulted in the destruction of the facility and the neutralization of several militants .
