Actor Stanley Ontop Claims Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo Blocked Him on Instagram Over VeryDarkMan Support

Nigerian actor Stanley Ontop has publicly stated that gospel singer Mercy Chinwo blocked him on Instagram after he urged her and her husband to "free VeryDarkMan."

Ontop's comments come amid ongoing legal disputes between Chinwo and activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

In a recent social media post, Ontop expressed his frustration, claiming that his attempt to mediate the situation led to his social media exclusion. "Mercy Chinwo blocked me on IG last night because I told her and her husband to free VDM," Ontop wrote, highlighting the tension surrounding the case.

The conflict between Chinwo and VeryDarkMan escalated in February 2025 when the activist accused Chinwo of diverting funds from shows without remitting payments to her former record label, Eezee Tee's EeZee Conceptz. Chinwo responded by filing a defamation lawsuit against VeryDarkMan, seeking N1.1 billion in damages and a public apology. She also presented evidence to the court, including emails and payment receipts, to substantiate her claims and protect her reputation..

The legal proceedings have drawn significant public attention, with various individuals and celebrities expressing their opinions on the matter. Ontop's statement adds to the growing discourse, reflecting the broader impact of the dispute on the Nigerian entertainment industry and its stakeholders.

As the case progresses, it remains to be seen how the involved parties will navigate the legal and public relations challenges arising from the ongoing controversy.
