The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for the implementation of mandatory drug testing for all prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as they report to orientation camps nationwide.
In a recent statement, NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa emphasized that such measures are crucial in the agency's efforts to combat drug abuse among Nigerian youth. He noted that early detection through drug testing would enable timely intervention and support for those affected.
General Marwa highlighted the importance of collaboration between the NDLEA and the NYSC to address the growing concerns of drug misuse. He suggested that trained corps members could play a significant role in grassroots counseling and rehabilitation efforts, particularly in underserved areas.
The NYSC has yet to officially respond to the NDLEA's proposal. However, discussions between the two organizations are expected to continue as they explore potential strategies to enhance the well-being of corps members and the communities they serve.
This initiative aligns with the NDLEA's broader campaign to reduce drug demand and promote healthier lifestyles among young Nigerians.
