Kenneth Okonkwo: APC Is Where They "Write Results" — Predicts 2027 Coalition to Challenge Tinubu

Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has stirred political waters once again, declaring that many politicians are defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) not because of ideology, but because “that’s where they write results.”

The former Labour Party (LP) spokesperson made these comments during a recent media appearance, warning that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on course to easily win re-election in 2027—unless opposition forces unite under a strong coalition.

“INEC is not for the people,” Okonkwo claimed, criticizing the nation’s electoral umpire and suggesting that winning an election in Nigeria now requires more than just votes. “Winning is no longer enough,” he said. “You’d need relationships to help you secure the win.”

Okonkwo, who exited the Labour Party in 2024 over what he described as Peter Obi’s “coldness,” hinted at his growing frustration with political structures. Despite being seen at the LP national convention earlier this month, he clarified that he is currently not affiliated with any political party.

He also confirmed that efforts are already underway to build a coalition ahead of 2027. “I don’t know who will lead it, but I’m certain there will be a coalition,” he said, framing it as the only viable path to disrupt APC’s stronghold on power.

Speaking on the internal dynamics of the ruling APC, Okonkwo predicted an imminent collapse of the party due to the influx of ambitious politicians. “APC is sinking,” he said. “Everyone moving there has their own ambition, which is clashing with the ambitions of those already there. It’s only a matter of time before it implodes.”

His statements come amid increased political realignments and defections across party lines, as aspirants position themselves for the next electoral cycle. Okonkwo's commentary reflects broader dissatisfaction with the state of Nigeria’s electoral processes and deepening distrust in institutions meant to uphold democratic principles.

While he has yet to declare his next political move, his words suggest he remains a key figure to watch in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
