Desmond Elliot Makes Grand Entrance at Lagos Fanti Carnival




Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot captivated attendees with a grand horseback entrance at the 2025 Lagos Fanti Carnival, held on Easter Sunday, April 20.

Dressed in a vibrant yellow Karreta costume—a nod to the Afro-Brazilian heritage of Lagos Island—Elliot joined thousands of revelers in celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of the region.​

The Lagos Fanti Carnival, a tradition dating back to 1890, is a vibrant fusion of Nigerian, Brazilian, and Cuban cultures, featuring samba-inspired music, elaborate parades, and colorful costumes. This year's festivities, supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, attracted over 10,000 attendees and garnered more than 50,000 livestream viewers. The event highlighted the dynamic fusion of heritage and innovation, honoring Afro-Brazilian roots while embracing the evolving cultural landscape of Lagos tourism 

Elliot's participation in the carnival underscores his continued engagement with cultural events in Lagos. Previously, he has been involved in initiatives showcasing the talents of public school pupils and has made efforts to improve infrastructure in his constituency, such as donating high-capacity transformers to Surulere .​

The Lagos Fanti Carnival remains a testament to the enduring spirit and unity of Lagos Island's diverse communities, celebrating their shared history and cultural heritage.
