Babcock Final-Year Student Goes Viral for BSc Project on Ayra Starr’s Career — Asks Mavin for Internship
A final-year student of Babcock University, Adesanya Tomisin, has taken academic creativity to a new level with her Bachelor’s degree research project titled:
“Assessment of PR Marketing on the Longevity of Ayra Starr's Career.”
The project, centered around Mavin Records' rising superstar Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has gone viral on social media — sparking interest from over a million people and earning an acknowledgment from the Sabi Girl herself.
Tomisin, who refers to Ayra as "The Mavins Princess" in her work, detailed how the singer evolved from a teenage fashion model in 2018 into a global Afrobeats sensation after catching the attention of Mavin Records CEO Don Jazzy, who signed her in 2019.
Her research explores the strategic use of PR and marketing in building Ayra’s career, including media aesthetics, digital storytelling, visual branding, and audience engagement — all of which she argues have contributed to Ayra Starr’s sustained relevance in the fast-moving Afrobeats industry.
The study doesn't just end with Ayra’s journey. Tomisin makes a bold claim: that Ayra Starr’s marketing blueprint has been so successful, it’s now influencing international acts — notably referencing South African breakout star Tyla, who she says “replicated the Mavin PR model” to global acclaim.
Despite the paper being yet-to-be-published (expected later this year), it’s already creating waves — especially after Tomisin publicly used the viral moment to ask for an internship at Mavin Records. Though Don Jazzy has not yet responded, the callout has been tagged over 2.8 million times, placing pressure on the label’s boss to take notice.
Ayra Starr acknowledged the research in a subtle but supportive post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “This is sooo cute! Thank you Tomisin ”, further fanning public excitement.
In the midst of the buzz, Ayra Starr is not slowing down either. She’s set to drop a new collaboration titled “Gimme That” featuring none other than Wizkid, dropping this Friday — and fans are already calling it “a global smash in waiting.”
With the buzz her academic work has generated, many are calling on Don Jazzy to offer Tomisin a spot at the Mavin Records table — or at least grant her the internship she boldly requested.
Whether or not the internship materializes, Tomisin’s project is being hailed as a brilliant intersection of pop culture and academic research — and a masterclass in how Gen Z continues to shape the narrative of Afrobeats.
