“How Can You People Read Here With This Kind of Poor Living Condition?” – Governor Alex Otti Asks ABSU Students, Blasts Staff

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed his frustration over the poor living conditions at the Abia State University (ABSU), asking how students can effectively study and succeed in such an environment.

The Governor's outburst occurred during a recent visit to the university, where he was appalled by the state of the facilities and the living conditions faced by students.

Addressing the students, Governor Otti remarked, “How can you people read here with this kind of poor living condition?” He noted the inadequacies of the university’s infrastructure, pointing out issues such as dilapidated hostels, overcrowded classrooms, and general neglect of the campus facilities. The Governor's comments reflected his disappointment in the state of affairs at the institution, urging immediate reforms to improve the learning environment for students.

In a scathing criticism of the university’s management, Otti also directed his frustrations at the staff, accusing them of not doing enough to address the deteriorating conditions on campus. “How can an institution entrusted with shaping the future of these young minds be allowed to function under these deplorable circumstances?” he queried.

The Governor’s visit, which was initially planned as a routine inspection, turned into a heated discussion as he vented his dissatisfaction over the state of affairs at ABSU. He assured the students, however, that his administration was committed to improving the university's infrastructure and ensuring better living and learning conditions.

Governor Otti’s remarks have sparked a wider conversation about the challenges facing public universities in Nigeria, with calls for immediate reforms and investments in higher education to ensure students have the necessary tools for academic success.
