Babachir Lawal Claims Tinubu’s Allies Reached Out After His Comments on Peter Obi Winning 2023 Election
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has revealed that key figures within President Bola Tinubu’s camp reached out to him following his public statement that Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, won the 2023 presidential election.
Lawal, who has been an outspoken critic of the administration, made these comments during a recent interview. He claimed that after stating his belief that Obi was the rightful winner of the election, members of Tinubu's team contacted him in an attempt to engage with his position.
“I said Peter Obi won the election, and after that, Tinubu’s men reached out to me,” Lawal disclosed, adding that the conversations centered around his public assertion of the election results. He did not, however, go into further details about the nature of the outreach from the President’s allies.
Lawal’s comments come at a time when political tensions surrounding the 2023 election results are still palpable. The election, which saw Bola Tinubu emerge as the winner, has been marked by controversy, with opposition parties, including the Labour Party, questioning the integrity of the process. Babachir Lawal’s statements add to the growing debate over the legitimacy of Tinubu's victory.
As political discussions continue to unfold, Lawal’s remarks serve as a reminder of the fractured state of Nigerian politics, with some factions still challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
