The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to comply with the Court of Appeal’s ruling reinstating the local government chairmen and councilors elected under the APC.
The party’s Osun chapter Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Kola Olabisi, made the plea during a press conference in Abuja on Sunday.Olabisi emphasized the importance of upholding democracy, truth, and due process in governance, stressing that political vendettas should not override these principles. He pointed out that the ongoing political conflict between Governor Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who is now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, was damaging Osun’s reputation for political wisdom and astuteness.
“We are deeply concerned about the political mockery in Osun, a state known for the intelligence and political astuteness of its people,” Olabisi said. He criticized the continuing discord, noting that for three weeks, Osun had received negative media coverage due to Adeleke's refusal to implement the court's ruling that reinstated the APC’s sacked local government chairmen.
Olabisi expressed disappointment that Governor Adeleke had ignored advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, both of whom recommended that he respect the court’s decision. He warned that the ongoing crisis was eroding public trust in the governor’s leadership. "The ongoing political crisis shows that Governor Adeleke has lost public trust. He is now struggling to maintain control," he said.
The APC spokesperson urged Adeleke to implement the Court of Appeal’s judgment from February 10, 2024, in the interest of upholding the rule of law and restoring confidence in Osun’s governance.
Addressing claims about the previous administration, Olabisi defended Oyetola’s leadership, stressing that all legal and procedural requirements were followed during his tenure. He dismissed allegations that procurement rules were violated under Oyetola’s administration, calling such claims misleading and clarifying that all contracts awarded during his time in office adhered strictly to the State Public Procurement Law.
The APC’s call for the immediate implementation of the court ruling adds to the growing pressure on Governor Adeleke to resolve the ongoing political tension and ensure that the rule of law is respected in Osun State.
