BREAKING: Osun LG Chairman, Others Killed in Violent Clash Between Oyetola’s APC and Adeleke’s PDP Over Council Control

In a tragic turn of events, the Chairman of a Local Government (LG) in Osun State, along with several others, have been killed following violent clashes between supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). The deadly confrontation occurred as both political factions battled for control over the local councils.

The violence erupted on February 17, 2025, after a series of confrontations between the two parties, each accusing the other of orchestrating the unrest. The clash reportedly involved gunfire and mob attacks, with several members of both political camps being caught in the violence. The slain LG Chairman was one of the victims, along with other local officials, as the fight over the control of local government positions took a deadly turn.

The battle for the councils escalated following the recent dismissal of local government chairmen by the state government led by Governor Ademola Adeleke of the PDP. The ousted chairmen, supported by the APC, sought to reclaim their positions, which led to heightened tensions in several areas, including the local government secretariats.

Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene, with gunshots ringing out and vehicles being set on fire as rival party supporters clashed in the streets. The violence has left many residents in fear for their safety, with security forces now being deployed to restore order.

Governor Adeleke has condemned the violence and called for calm, while also pledging to investigate the events that led to the deaths. On the other hand, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC has accused the PDP-led government of instigating the violence, further deepening political divisions in the state.

The deaths of the LG Chairman and others have intensified calls for peaceful resolution and dialogue between political parties, as well as greater accountability in the handling of local government affairs. The situation remains fluid, with both state and federal authorities expected to intervene in the coming hours to prevent further bloodshed.
