Nigerian music duo Ajebo Hustlers has expressed their frustration after being allegedly harassed by officers of the Nigerian Police while en route to their highly anticipated EP listening party.
The incident, which took place in Lagos, has sparked outrage among fans and industry colleagues, with many voicing their concerns about the increasing frequency of such interactions between law enforcement and Nigerian entertainers. In a series of posts on social media, Ajebo Hustlers shared their experience, detailing how they were stopped by the police while on their way to the event. The duo claimed they were subjected to unnecessary questioning and intimidation, despite having valid reasons for their presence in the area. The encounter, which reportedly delayed their arrival at the event, left the artists visibly shaken and upset.
“We were harassed for no reason at all while heading to our listening party. The police didn’t even listen to our explanation,” the duo wrote in a post. "This is not the first time something like this has happened, and it’s becoming frustrating."
Fans quickly rallied behind the duo, condemning the police for their actions. Many pointed out that such incidents, which often happen without cause or justification, undermine the efforts of artists who are simply trying to do their work and engage with their audience.
Music industry stakeholders also voiced their discontent, calling for better treatment of artists, especially those who contribute significantly to the country’s cultural and entertainment landscape. Some have even suggested that the Nigerian Police force undergo further training on how to properly interact with celebrities and the public, urging for a more professional approach.
Ajebo Hustlers has not commented further on any potential legal action or if they intend to press charges. However, the incident has certainly sparked a larger conversation on the need for reform in the way law enforcement engages with entertainers and the general public in Nigeria.
As the duo moves forward with promoting their new EP, they remain hopeful that such incidents will not tarnish their passion for music and creativity. The support from their fans continues to pour in as they work to turn this negative experience into a catalyst for positive change within the entertainment industry.
