Airtel Nigeria Implements Up to 50% Tariff Adjustment in Revised Data Pricing Structure




In a significant move that has sparked widespread reactions, Airtel Nigeria has announced a revision of its data pricing structure, implementing a tariff adjustment of up to 50 percent. The new pricing plan, which took effect immediately, affects various data bundles and is aimed at aligning with current market realities and operational costs.

The telecommunications giant disclosed the changes in a statement released to the public, citing rising operational expenses and the need to maintain quality service delivery as key reasons for the adjustment. "In light of the current economic climate and increasing costs of operations, we have revised our data tariffs to ensure we continue to provide reliable and high-quality services to our customers," the statement read.

Under the new pricing structure, customers will experience an increase in the cost of data bundles across all tiers. For instance, a 1GB monthly plan, which previously cost ₦1,000, may now go for as much as ₦1,500, depending on the specific bundle and validity period. Similarly, smaller bundles and daily plans have also seen significant hikes, with some increasing by up to 50 percent.

The announcement has elicited mixed reactions from Airtel’s customer base. While some subscribers understand the need for the adjustment given the current economic challenges, others have expressed frustration, arguing that the increase is too steep and could limit access to affordable internet services.

"This is a tough pill to swallow. Data is already expensive, and this hike will make it even harder for many Nigerians to stay connected," said one Airtel user on social media.

However, Airtel has assured customers that the tariff adjustment will not compromise the quality of its services. The company emphasized its commitment to investing in network infrastructure and expanding its 4G coverage to enhance user experience.
