In a significant move aimed at restoring integrity within the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Honorable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has inaugurated an independent investigative panel to probe allegations of corruption and gross violations of standard operating procedures. The panel will be headed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The inauguration, which took place earlier today, underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability within the correctional system. Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need for thorough investigations to address the issues that have plagued the service and to implement necessary reforms.

“This panel is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the allegations of misconduct within the Nigeria Correctional Service. We must ensure that our correctional facilities operate under the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” the Minister stated during the ceremony.

The formation of the panel comes in the wake of growing concerns about the conditions within correctional facilities and the management practices that have led to widespread criticism. Dr. Ajani expressed her determination to lead the investigation with impartiality and diligence, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned in our quest for justice and accountability.”

As the panel begins its work, stakeholders are hopeful that its findings will lead to meaningful reforms and improved conditions for both staff and inmates within the correctional system. The government’s proactive approach aims to restore public confidence in the Nigeria Correctional Service and ensure that it functions effectively and ethically.
