"She is one of the strongest girls I have ever met" - Danish aid worker recalls how 13-year-old pregnant girl was rescued in Akwa Ibom as her son turns 4
Danish Aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven on Thursday, November 25, celebrated a boy, who was born by a then 13-year-old girl, Ekemini in Eket, Akwa Ibom state.
The boy named Abasiofon turned 4 years old few months ago.
Recall that on Ekemini, now 17, was rescued by Ms Loven's team including husband David Emmannuel Umem, on May 2016. She gave birth via cesarean section as her pelvis was not fully developed.
Sharing a photo of the all grown up boy, whom she described as "a sweet butter cheeks muffin pumpkin pie" she recalled how his teen mother stood up from bed a day after delivery.
She wrote;
"Back in 2016 David Emmanuel Umem and our team rescued Ekemini. She was only 13 years old and pregnant,"
"Because of her young age, Ekemini had a cesarean a few months after the rescue. Our nurse Rose, our Director of Child Development Nsidibe Orok, our Education Officer Don Udowan and David was all with her. I was there via Skype from Denmark"
"We were all so happy to welcome Abasiofon to the world. Only one day after the cesarean Ekemini stood out of bed ! She was so strong and NEVER complained about anything,"
"Ekemini is one of the strongest girls I have ever met in my life. To become a mother at the age of 13 is not easy and Ekemini had a lot to learn. Lucky for her she was surrounded by the best staff in the world at Land of Hope.
"Today Abasiofon is 4 years old and he has grown into such a sweet butter cheeks muffin pumpkin pie you just want to eat up"
