Nigerians mock President Buhari with #BuhariChallenge

“Where is Buhari?” That was the question on everyone’s lips on Thursday and the same continued on Friday morning.

The question arises in the wake of the speculations that the Nigerian president has been secretly flown to London for treatment amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Nigerians, however, demanded their elected president to dispel the rumour by addressing them physically and not through written statements by aides.

However, rather than address the citizens, the Nigerian President handle on Twitter (@NGRPresident), posted a photo of him sitting at his office working with the caption:

“The concocted audio message about President @MBuhari’s whereabouts should be totally disregarded. It is Fake News in its entirety. The President tonight at the State House, at work.”

Bashir Ahmad, Special Assistant to the president on New Media also posted the same picture on Thursday night.

“President Muhammadu Buhari; still at work!” he captioned it.

Despite attempts by the presidency, yet Nigerians have not only questioned why he is working from home and not the office, but there is also noticeably no personal health hygiene product such as sanitizer on his table.

However, since the Presidency claimed that President Buhari’s photo was recent, Nigerians have also taken to Twitter to share photos of influential personalities, each photo ‘proving’ that the events also occurred yesterday:

As of the time of writing this report, there are over 45,000 tweets on #BuhariChallenge and over 40,000 tweets on #WhereisBuhari.
