Boko Haram: FG lifts ban on Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger

The ban on two humanitarian organisations operating in the north east, Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger has been temporarily lifted by the Federal Government. 

Recall that the offices of the humanitarian agencies were shut down after being declared “persona non grata” by the Nigerian army who accused them of aiding Boko Haram insurgents by supplying them food and drugs despite warnings. 

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq however announced on Wednesday October 30 that the ban has been temporarily lifted. 

Sadiya who stated that the Nigerian government is working to end terrorism in the northeast, added that the Federal Government is  concerned about counter-terrorism efforts. 

“The suspension of the two international Humanitarian organisations – Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger is temporarily lifted.

“The concerns and recommendations of the Board of Inquiry will continue to receive attention and scrutiny to address the issues raised and comply,” she said.
