Flood ravages villages in Sokoto State |
Residents in villages of Makuwana, Dan Gawo and kumbula of Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto state were thrown into deplorable condition aftermath of the recent flooding that damaged about 152 houses and more than 400 farm lands submerged, it also carted away large number of domestic animals and destroyed other means of shelter.
An assessment team from NEMA, SEMA and DSS discovered that the flooding was as a result of heavy downpour that lasted for over two days and other source of water from streams in Zamfara and Katsina state led to the overflow of the Sabon Birni tributary river.
Head, Nema Sokoto Operations Mal. Suleiman Muhammad who led the team has confirmed that affected communities are in dire need of food and other households materials as makeshift hamlets errected inside bushes served as their means of accommodation as their houses were completely flooded.
As at time of filing the report of the assessment, roaming around neighbouring communities prove abortive as vehicles find it difficult to access, the local cat drive supported by cows is the only means of transportation to ferry the villagers perform their routine activities.
