Fresh controversy has emerged around the ongoing legal proceedings involving suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari after social media personality known as “Cyborg Warlord” made explosive allegations concerning Nigeria’s anti-drug agency.
In a series of online claims, the commentator alleged that new developments in court proceedings have raised questions about the role of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in drug trafficking investigations linked to Kyari’s case.
According to the claims, a defence team reportedly presented a 27-minute confession video allegedly featuring suspected drug traffickers who admitted to their crimes and described an alleged system that allowed couriers to pass through airport security without thorough searches. The video was said to suggest that photographs of couriers were allegedly shared in advance with certain airport officials, enabling unrestricted passage upon arrival at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
The allegations surfaced within the broader legal battle stemming from events following Kyari’s suspension from the Nigeria Police Force in 2021 after accusations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) linked him to fraud suspect Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi. The NDLEA later accused Kyari of involvement in a cocaine trafficking attempt allegedly connected to Ethiopia in January 2022 allegations he has denied.
Online commentators now claim that recent courtroom developments appear to shift scrutiny toward the agency itself, with some suggesting that the defence strategy aims to challenge the credibility of the prosecution’s narrative. However, legal analysts caution that allegations presented in court do not automatically amount to proven facts until verified through judicial findings.
Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani is expected to play a key role as proceedings continue, with observers noting that the outcome could significantly influence public perception of both the accused officer and the anti-drug agency.
