Documents Allege Patami Plotted Assassination of Former Kaduna Governor Patrick Yakowa

Newly surfaced documents have implicated current official Timipre Patami in a plot targeting the late Patrick Yakowa, former Governor of Kaduna State, who died in a helicopter crash in 2012. Yakowa, a Christian leader, has long been remembered for his efforts at fostering peace and development in Kaduna.

The documents suggest that the crash may not have been an accident, raising questions about the safety and integrity of public office during that period. Critics allege that Patami, described by some as a hardened Fulani extremist, benefitted politically from the crash and has remained in office under the protection of a presidency accused of tolerating terror-linked actors.

The revelations have reignited debates on political accountability, religious bias, and security failures in Nigeria, with calls for independent investigations to uncover the truth behind Yakowa’s death and ensure justice for affected communities.

Advocates argue that the nation cannot achieve lasting peace until alleged perpetrators of politically and religiously motivated crimes are thoroughly scrutinized, regardless of their current status in government.

The documents have yet to be independently verified by federal authorities, but they have already sparked national outrage and renewed scrutiny of the entanglement of politics and sectarian violence in Nigeria.
