Nigerians React as Wike’s Son Reportedly Attends Meeting of Aviation and FCT Directors

A wave of public outrage has erupted online following reports that the son of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, was seen attending a meeting of directors from the Ministry of Aviation and the FCT Administration.

The incident, which reportedly took place during an official briefing in Abuja, has sparked widespread criticism from Nigerians who questioned the young man’s role, authority, and presence at a high-level government meeting meant strictly for civil service directors and policymakers.

Social media users flooded platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook to express their displeasure, describing the act as another example of nepotism, impunity, and disregard for governance protocols in the country.

“What is Wike’s son doing in a meeting of directors of the Ministry of Aviation and the FCT?” one user asked. “Is he a government official or has Nigeria become a family enterprise?”

Another commenter wrote:

“This is exactly why people lose faith in governance. Public offices are not family property. Even if he’s shadowing his father, it should not be during an official meeting with top civil servants.”

As of press time, no official statement had been issued by the FCT Ministry or the office of the Minister of Aviation to clarify the purpose of Wike’s son’s attendance at the meeting.

Analysts say the incident raises broader questions about accountability and ethics in public service, especially concerning the boundaries between family members of public officials and the formal conduct of government business.

Civil society groups have also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Head of Service of the Federation to investigate the matter, calling for stricter enforcement of administrative procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“Nigeria is not a monarchy,” one civic advocate noted. “No one should use public institutions as personal classrooms for their family members. Governance must be guided by transparency and professionalism.”

The controversy adds to a series of heated public debates surrounding the conduct and influence of political elites within Nigeria’s federal ministries and agencies.
