A notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has once again shocked the nation with his ruthless actions. After hosting an elaborate Eid celebration in Magira, located in the Isa Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, Turji and his gang moved on to Fadamar Lugu, a nearby village, where they carried out a brutal attack on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that Turji, known for his violent activities across northern Nigeria, celebrated the Islamic holiday with a lavish gathering in Magira, before swiftly shifting to Fadamar Lugu, where the violence unfolded. The gang’s attack, which took place in the early hours of the day, left 12 people dead and one person seriously injured. Eyewitnesses describe a horrifying scene where the gunmen stormed the village, shooting indiscriminately at residents and setting homes ablaze.
The victims, who included men, women, and children, were reportedly caught off guard, with little to no means of escape. The single survivor of the attack was rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment, though details of their condition remain unclear.
Local authorities and residents have expressed deep concerns over the growing presence of Turji and his gang in the region, with many calling for stronger security measures to safeguard communities from future attacks. This latest incident marks another devastating chapter in the ongoing wave of banditry that has plagued Sokoto and other northern states in recent years.
Despite efforts by security forces to contain these criminal groups, Turji and his bandits remain elusive, continuing to instill fear in the region. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but local leaders are demanding immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of innocent civilians.
As the investigation into Tuesday's attack continues, the people of Sokoto State are left reeling from the violence, hoping for a swift resolution to the rising tide of banditry in the region.
