"167km of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Awarded to Contractors, Work Progresses One Year After Project Launch"
One year after the launch of the ambitious Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, a significant milestone has been achieved, with 167 kilometers of the 700-kilometer road officially awarded to contractors. The highway, which is set to boost connectivity and economic activities across Nigeria’s coastal regions, is progressing steadily with ongoing construction across various sections.
As of now, work has been awarded in three key sections of the project:
Section 1: 47 kilometers – awarded and progressing
Section 2: 55 kilometers – awarded and progressing
Section 3: 65 kilometers – awarded and progressing
The completion of these sections represents an important step in what is expected to be a transformative infrastructure development for the country. Notably, work on Section 3, which covers the critical Calabar-Akwa Ibom stretch, is set to begin next month, marking another important phase of the project.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is expected to significantly enhance trade, transportation, and tourism, as well as improve the movement of goods and people between Nigeria’s southern and southeastern regions. Despite challenges, the project remains on track, with contractors committed to meeting the deadlines.
The government has expressed optimism about the continued progress of the highway, which is seen as a vital part of Nigeria's infrastructure development strategy. As work continues, many are hopeful that the successful completion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will serve as a model for similar projects across the country.
