Nigerian Army Acquires and Refurbishes 60-Year-Old Fire-Fighting Helicopters

In a surprising move, the Nigerian Army has successfully acquired and refurbished two 60-year-old fire-fighting helicopters that had been abandoned in South Africa. The helicopters, now registered as NA 010 and NA 011, were presented as new additions to the Army's aviation fleet.

The initiative, led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General, aims to enhance the Army's operational capabilities and address urgent needs in firefighting and emergency response. The refurbishment process involved extensive upgrades to ensure the helicopters meet modern safety and performance standards.

This acquisition is part of a broader strategy to optimize resources and improve operational readiness. The Nigerian Army expressed confidence that these refurbished aircraft will significantly bolster their efforts in disaster management and humanitarian assistance.

The presentation of the helicopters has garnered attention, with many praising the Army’s resourcefulness in revitalizing older equipment for contemporary use.
