Government Commissions First Retrofitted CNG Train for Abuja-Kaduna Route

In a significant development, the government has announced the commissioning of the first retrofitted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) train head for the Abuja-Kaduna rail track. This initiative, highlighted by Minister George Akume, aims to reduce travel costs by up to 50% once fully operational.

During a press briefing, Akume emphasized the importance of this project as part of the administration's broader efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure and promote sustainable energy solutions. He stated, "This train represents a commitment to modernizing our rail system while making travel more affordable for Nigerians."

The retrofitting of the CNG train is expected to not only lower operational costs but also contribute to environmental sustainability by utilizing cleaner fuel alternatives. As the government continues to invest in transportation, the initiative reflects a strategic move towards improving accessibility and efficiency in the country’s rail network.

With the CNG train set to begin operations soon, stakeholders are optimistic about its impact on travel dynamics in the Abuja-Kaduna corridor and the potential for similar projects across the nation. Akume's announcement marks another milestone in the administration's efforts to bolster Nigeria's transportation sector.
